Ok, so my husband and I bought a new desktop, and it originally had skype 4.1 on it, whitch I downgraded to 3.6 as a friend said it worked with windows 7, and whitch I prefered because I like skype me mode.
However, the skype scripts I installed only work for a few minutes when I start up the computer, and then for some reason, stop.
does anyone have any idea why this would happen?
your friend isn't right. 3.6 doesn't work with windows 7. 4.1, 4.2, or 5 do quite well, and with the skype talking program you can still reach skype me or so i've been told.
well, the skype is working fine, actually, because I know several sighted people who use it, but for some reason the scripts won't work...
very strange. I never knew anything older then 3.8 worked on win7, I was told that it probably would run for a few minutes then crah. but yeah, try out the skype talking program and see if that doesn't help.
You can still reach skype me mode when using skype four and later, if you run skype talking just press control, alt, and backspace repeatedly until you hear skype me.
Their is a setting that allows people to see when you are online in the newer versions of Skype. It is Skype me, but called differently. Also I would say at least move up to Skype 3.8, it has the regular Skype me mode, and install the proper Scripts for that version of Skype. Or get the correct scripts for 3.6. Their is another posting on here I did with the better website for getting them. I'd move up though.
what exactly is this skype talk program?
skype talking interfaces with some screen readers and SAPI to notify you about alerts and notifications in skype. it can announce mood message changes, contact status changes, incoming calls, file transfers and more that i most likely don't even know of yet. go to skypetalking.googlecode.com to learn more about it, and the downloads for it are there as well.
yeah i definatley think its time you get fimiliar with a newer version of skype as security flaws and other bug fixes is one of the main reason for the developers put out updates.
Okay more on your issue. To get the Skype Me working in the latest version you look under your privacy settings in options. There is a check box that says allow users to see when I am online.
You can read about the function. While looking at Skype I checked to see if there were new Scripts and I was behind a peg. I was impressed at the way he has kept the scripts current, but I am overly impressed now. If you are going to run Skype 5.0 he’s got the scripts set to update easier, a help file that explains the proper setup to make Skype work best with the scripts, and I’ve posted that as well on here, and the directionns in that file to explain how to use it. Just beautiful! so if I were you instead of fooling with 3.6 I’d update period. Smile. Here is the page. Ok....
1. I updated to a version of skype 4.2 [I think] and the script issues still occur. they work for a while when I first start up the computer, but then soon stop.
2. the thing for getting skype me doesn't seem to work.
3. I am saying the scripts aren't working because the alt 1, 2, 3 etc stops working for conversations.
Okay. Dump the Script files. Also are you running the scripts for Skype 4.2? It is important to run the correct scripts for the version of Skype you are using. Now here's a trick that worked with 4.2. You can set it so that it work say for Vista with service pack 2. You go to skype then hit the applications key and arror to properties. Hit that and find compatible view and set it to the verion of windows it worked best on. Now if the computer you are using never had say Vista, then again ditch your scripts and get fresh. If you are up to version 4.2 bite the bullet and go on up! Smile. If ditching the script files is difficult repair or reinstall Jaws. Remove it, but not the key, then reinstall it. Have your husband help with this if you need Jaws to talk to you while doing this. A trick is for example, if you have Jaws 10 installed, but want to repair 11 or 12 run Jaws 10 and remove the version you want. Restarting the computer if you have it checked to automaticly start say, Jaws 10 will start that version. If not start the computer, wait tell you are sure windows is all set and type Windows Key R for run and then type Jaws 10, or whatever version you want to start. Now you have speech, so reinstall your new Jaws and then bite the bullet and get Skype 5.0 and the latest scripts and install them in the new version of Jaws. Now explain why the feature that states that users can see when you are online doesn't seem to work? Is that because know one is talking with you you don't know?
Mine was working fine, until like a day ago, and I can't seem to get it to work again. I think I'll just ditch it.

well, seeing is all I use is NVDA for skype and stuff, I use skype talking.
but if I were you i'd be sure that you got the right scripts and stuff installed for jaws and you also should get skypewatch.

I know it's not working because it hasn't asked me for permition or changed my status. I don't actually like this new thing of just being online and letting other people see that you are. I certainly don't talk to randoms who are just online, only skype me.
Change your privacy settings so that anyone can send you messages. I don't know exactly how it works, but I understand you must have that setting along with anyone on all things except video calls. You can read about it, plus ask the folks at Skype how to make it work like Skype me. When I used Skype me I found that anyone and I do mean anyone could send me messages or chat with me, so extremely random, so I assumed that is what you want even though you say you don't chat with random people.
